Abstract

1533915 Adjusting vehicle headlamps FAUSTO CARELLO & C SpA 5 Feb 1976 [6 Feb 1975] 04597/76 Heading F4R A device for adjusting the inclination of two groups of vehicle headlamps, each of which groups comprises at least one headlamp 1 or 2, includes a single double acting hydraulic cylinder 22 with a piston 31 slidably mounted therein to define two chambers 27, 28 the volumes of which vary inversely to one another, two transducers 9, 10 each comprising an hydraulic inlet connected to a respective one of the chambers and a mechanical outlet 20 connected to a respective headlamp, and manually operable adjustment means for controlling the axial position of the piston. The adjustment means comprise a control knob 39 connected to a pinion 38 engaged with a rack 34 on the piston. The transducers may be arranged, as shown, in mutually opposed directions but in a modification they are mounted in the same direction and one of the rods 5 and 6 connecting the mechanical outlets 20 to the headlamps is linked to its respective headlamp by way of a rocker arm or other reversing element. A non- return valve may be provided at the inlet of at least one of the transducers, the valve being of the type which closes when the pressure difference exceeds a predetermined value.
