Abstract
1533715 Incinerators; burning noxious gases U PASSAVANT AG MICHELBACHER HUTTE [trading as PASSAVANT WERKE MICHELBACHER HUTTE] 29 July 1976 [26 Sept 1975] 31712/76 Heading F4B In a multiple hearth gravity fed incinerator for solid waste material comprising a preheating and drying chamber 3 disposed above an incinerating chamber 2, waste gases withdrawn from the incinerating chamber at 8 are passed through an indirect heat exchanger 9 to preheat a current of primary air which is thereafter passed through the preheating chamber 2 counter-currently to the downward passage of solid waste material, said primary air together with entrained noxious gases and vapours emanating from the waste material during drying being withdrawn from the chamber 3 at 12 and introduced into the lower part of the incinerating chamber 2 at 14. As shown the preheating and incinerating chambers 2 and 3 are separated from one another by one or more passages containing flap or gate valves 15 for controlling the flow of waste material therethrough. Multiple hearths 5 are arranged in both chambers 2 and 3, and rotating components 7 mounted on a hollow shaft 6 are provided for moving the material from one hearth to the next. The shaft 6 may be air cooled and the cooling air used as primary air which is fed to the heat exchanger 9 or directly into the incinerating chamber 2. Additional cold or preheated air may be directly introduced into chamber 2.
