Sliding-jaw wrenches.-An adjustable wrench comprises a shank carrying a fixed jaw, a movable jaw sliding on the, shank, an axially fixed and rotatable adjusting-screw, a half-nut or the equivalent on the movable jaw engaging the adjusting-screw, and a setscrew adapted to lock the movable jaw on the shank by binding the adjusting-screw between the half-nut &c. and the shank. The movable jaw a sliding on the shank b of the fixed jaw c is adjusted by a screw d mounted in a groove f and having a milled head e engaging a recess g in the shank b, whereby the screw d is axially fixed but may be rotated. The screw d engages a half-nut h fixed to the movable jaw a or a threaded part of the jaw a and is locked between the shank b and the halfnut h &c. by a set-screw i engaging the shank b and levering the jaw a about its end a<1>. Sufficient play may be allowed between the screw i and the shank b to allow the half-nut h to be wholly disengaged from the screw d for effecting rough adjustment.
