Abstract

5053. Pissard, H., and Vandemaker, E. Feb. 26. Sliding - jaw wrenches. - Adjustable spanners, of the kind in which the sliding jaw is provided with teeth which are engaged with teeth on the fixedjaw shank by means of a wedge inserted between the movable jaw and the shank, are so constructed that the action of the wedge shifts the movable jaw in a direction parallel to the axis of a nut to be operated on. In one arrangement, the wedge 9, provided with a thumbpiece projecting through a slot in the movable jaw 3, engages a longitudinal groove 7 in the fixed-jaw shank 2 to permit of adjustment, locking being effected, against the action of a spring 12, by moving the wedge to the position shown in Fig. 5, so as to draw the teeth 5 on the movable jaw into engagement with teeth 4 on the shank. In a modification, the recess into which the wedge is moved to permit of adjustment is made in the movable jaw.
