Abstract
1533050 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines BG WHITESTONE and JF SIEBERTH 2 Dec 1976 50335/76 Heading F1F In a machine similar to one of the trochoidal type and adaptable for use as a heat engine, a fluid motor, or a pump the periphery of the piston 14 has portions 19 adjacent the apices 15 that do not engage with the peripheral wall 20 of the casing when the piston rotates, median portions 17 being allowed to come into sealing engagement with said wall periodically during piston rotation. Alternative profiles for the piston and casing are illustrated in Figs. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (not shown), the piston having in each case either two or more than three apices. As shown in Fig. 11 each end of the piston may be provided with channels 25 that co-operate with working-fluid inlet or outlet ports 35 in the adjacent casing end-plate 30. Radial sealing plates 42, 43, Fig. 18, may be lodged in the median portions 17 of the piston's periphery. Two of the machines may be combined so as to form a hot-gas engine operating in accordance with the Stirling cycle, Figs. 13-16 (not shown).
