Abstract
1532420 Laying fabrics PFAFF INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN GmbH 3 Dec 1975 [21 Feb 1975] 49637/75 Heading D1S A fabric laying machine comprising a support 2 positioned on a chassis 1 and rotatable about a vertical axis D, the support 2 having a fabric-bale-carrying frame 10 having guides 25, 27, 28 for a fabric S withdrawn from a bale B and a cutting device 32 having a blade 31 to sever transversely the fabric S, is characterized in that, in use, the axis D and a portion of the fabric S running vertically between the guides 25, 27, 28 are located in a common plane E together with the cutting line of the blade 31. As shown in Fig. 1, the chassis I comprises a frame 3' carrying four runners 6 supported in pairs on two fixed rails 7, one runner 6 being drivable by a motor 8. The frame 10 of the support 2 is rotatable with respect to the frame 2 about a pivot 13 on the axis D, the support 2 being securable in one of two positions spaced 180‹ apart by a stopping mechanism 15 having a member 16 engagable in a recess 17 or 18. The fabric bale B rests on rollers 19, 20 rotatably mounted in the frame 10 and of which the roller 19 is drivable by a motor 23 synchronized with the motor 8 so that the speed of feed of the fabric from the bale is the same as the speed of movement of the chassis 1 so that it is unnecessary to secure the leading fabric edge at the commencement of each lay. A deflecting roller 25 and baffles 27, 28 are mounted on the frame 10 to guide the fabric S in the plane E. The device 32, Fig. 3, is displacable in a slot in the baffle 28, e.g. by a rack and pinion, and the blade 31 is rotatable by a motor 30. Slots 33, 34 in the baffles 27, 28 accommodate the blade 31. The side walls of the frame 10 may also be provided with blade-accommodating slots (35), Fig. 4 (not shown), to permit the cutting of a wide fabric. In use, the motors 8, 23 are switched on and a layer of fabric is laid on a stack T on a height-adjustable table 36. At the end of the lay, the motors 8, 23 are switched off. The motor 30 is switched on and the device 32 is moved transversely across the fabric to effect cutting. The chassis 1 is returned manually to its starting position with the motor 8 inoperative. The table 36 is lowered by a distance equal to the fabric thickness. If it is desired to lay the fabric with two like sides of the fabric layers facing each other, the member 16 is pressed out of recess 17, the support 2 is rotated through 180‹, the member 16 engages in the recess 18 and the next lay commences.
