Plug couplings.-A plug connector for use with electric irons, cookers, or other electrically heated appliances, is constructed with a thermally released switching device which opens the circuit on overheating. A device adapted for an electric iron 28, Fig. 1, is constituted by two portions 2, 3 shown separate in Fig. 2 but actually screwed together so as to form a pair of sockets 26 to fit over the pin terminals 27 of the heating appliance, a leading-in duct 21' for the flexible wires 22, and a circular switch chamber 12 containing the thermally-released device. This is composed of a pair of stationary contacts 16, 17, and a rotary bridging contact 18, normally held in the closed position shown against a throw-off spring 30. Fig. 3, by means of a ratchet detent 36 united to the rotary axle 10 through a fusible collar 38. The switch is further provided with a thermally conducting plate 14 to lead the lieat of the appliance to the switch spindle 10, a re-setting knob 15, and an external indicator arm 40. The fusible collar softens under excessive heat and the switch is thrown off. When cold the collar hardens again in situ and the switch can be reset.
