Abstract

153,200. Jennings, J. W. Jan. 7, 1920. Rail flanges. - In wheels for railway and tramway vehicles, the flange a is formed with the body of the wheel as usual but the tread consists of one or more superposed floating rings b, b<1>, b<2>. The rings are held in place by means of a detachable side ring l and the rail flange which may be recessed as at k to house the end of the rings b. Grooves c, f, h may be provided on one of each pair of relatively movable contacting surfaces and a single rib e on the other, the grooves serving to contain lubricant. The rail flange a and ring l are thickened as at a', l<1> for additional strength.
