Abstract

1531501 Mooring vessels; floating harbours R J SWIFT 24 March 1976 [5 April 1975] 14045/75 Headings B7A and B7V A floating harbour of U-shape in plan is moored by two anchor chains to a submerged mooring point, the two anchor chains being located at the bow and stern of the harbour. The forward anchor chain may be paid in or out and the after anchor chain is releasable by quick release means in an emergency and is of fixed length. Alternatively the after anchor chain may also be paid in or out on a winch as is the forward anchor chain. By adjusting the length(s) of the anchor chain(s) the harbour's attitude to wind, or tide can be suitably adjusted. As described the harbour is for use as a pilot station and it may be fitted with propulsion units, wind vanes, bow and stern structure and means for suppressing the waves in basin 16. Such means may comprise compressed air which is discharged through nozzles on to the water surface in the basin 16 and which is compressed in a chamber by wave motion.
