Abstract
1530899 Iron oxide pigment REDLAND ROOF TILES Ltd 13 iFeb 1976 [13 Nov 1974] 49162/74 Heading C1A An iron oxide pigment is made by oxidizing a mixture of a suspension of ferrous hydroxide and an alkali metal halide or ammonium halide at pH 8-10. The mixture may be produced by reacting together stoichiometric quantities of a hydrated ferrous sulphate and an alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide to give a ferrous hydroxide suspension of pH 8-10 then adding the halide to the suspension or it may be made by reacting together ferrous chloride and an alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide. The oxidation is preferably performed pH 8À5-9À5 at a temperature of not less than 70‹ C. by bubbling steam and either air or O 2 through the mixture. Preferably the gas is passed through a sintered material to produce small bubbles. After formation of the pigment, the suspension is filtered and the pigment is washed to remove byproducts.
