Abstract

1530800 Gas controls UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Oct 1976 [14 Oct 1975 13 Aug 1976] 42010/75 and 33731/76 Heading F4T [Also in Division H1] A thermally operated combined electrical switch and gas valve assembly comprises a thermal unit 12, including moving and non- moving parts, a gas line and valve 15, 16, the moving parts being located in the gas line and positioned to operate the gas valve, and an electric switch 27<SP>1</SP>, located outside the gas line and operable by a push rod 42 moved by unit 12 in conjunction with valve 16. Thermal unit 12 comprises a mercury-filled phial located adjacent a flame, which latter is fed with fuel from line 15 and valve 16. Electric switch 27<SP>1</SP> includes two pairs of terminals 33, 34, which are closed or opened by a shorting ring 36 actuated against a spring by push rod 42, which in turn is moved by a spring-urged lever 43 controlled by the thermal unit 12. When a flame is present, unit 12 opens valve 16 and allows push rod 42 to move upwardly, so that terminals 33 are made and an igniter is actuated. In a modification valve 16 includes a rubber diaphragm (20), Fig. 2 of provisional Specification (not shown), and the switch (27) is actuated by push rod (25). The diaphragm (20) may act as the valve closure member Fig. 3 (not shown).
