Abstract
An ignition system for a gas-fired burner, for example for a navigation light, has a magnetic safety gas valve (5) a thermoelectric ignition safety device (7) controlling the magnetic valve, and an electrically operated igniter (9). An energising coil device (5a) is associated with the magnetic valve to energise the valve, the energising coil device being operable by a starting and control device (24) by way of a capacitor (30) which in timed sequence is chargeable from a battery (29) and dischargeable through the energising coil device. <IMAGE>
