1528103 Unfurling and furling sails J W FRETWELL 25 Feb 1976 7391/76 Heading B7V A device for unfurling and furling a light sail 12 (such as a spinnaker) comprises at least two rings 10A, 10B and 10C which are attached to a spacing line 14 and are capable of slidably engaging the sail 12, a halyard 26 comprising sections 32 and 30 the ends of the halyard being connected to yoke lines 34 and 28 respectively, which yoke lines are secured at their ends to the ring 10A, control bands 24A, 24B and 24C attached to the line 14, and slidably engaging the halyard 26 a sheave block 16, attached to one end of the line 14 and through which the halyard 26 passes, a top-hat shaped grommet 36 and a ring 40 which has a sufficiently small inside diameter to allow only section 32 of the halyard to pass through it and which has an outer diameter large enough to prevent the ring itself from passing through both the sheave block 16 and the control ring 24c. A knot or fishing swivel is provided which is too large to pass through the ring 40. In use, the halyard is pulled to either raise or lower the rings 10A, 10B, 10C in order respectively to unfurl or furl the sail.
