Abstract
1527538 Fuel gas SIEMENS AG 18 Nov 1976 [29 Dec 1975] 48222/76 Heading C5E [Also in Division Fl] Fuel gas is prepared from an atomized, gasified or vaporized liquid hydrocarbon-containing fuel and an oxygen-containing gas at elevated temperature in a gas generator which comprises a reaction chamber in which there are disposed a plurality of plates spaced parallel to one another and normal to the intended flow of the reaction mixture and a plurality of particulate filling bodies located in the spaces between the plates, each of the plates being formed with a multiplicity of throughflow apertures and being made of a material which has a higher thermal conductivity than the filling bodies. Most preferably the filling bodies and/or the plates are provided with a catalytically active surface. The plates may be in the form of porous ceramic sinter bricks or made from a metallic material, e.g. molybdenum silicide. The filling bodies may be porous ceramic particles in the form of spheres or cylinders and it is preferred to provide, in the heap thereof, members consisting of a metallic material which have wall faces extending parallel to the direction of flow. The fuel gas may be mixed with combustion air and fed into an internal combustion engine.
