Abstract

1527250 Building method; sprayed monolithic skin BOVIS SPRAYCON Ltd 17 Nov 1975 47290/75 Heading E1W A method of constructing a building comprises laying a foundation 7, erecting a framework to define the positions of walls, covering the framework with concrete reinforcing means 11, 19 and spray barriers 8, 9, 10 over the whole area except for door and window openings and spraying concrete 17, 18, 20 over the covered framework on both sides so that the reinforcement is embedded and the concrete forms a monolithic skin. The framework is preferably steel angle sections 2 and I beams 5 with further angle sections 3, 4, 6 welded or bolted to two uprights to form a column 1 and to secure the column to the foundations and to the crossbeam 5. Portals comprising two such columns and a cross-beam may be performed. The frame members may project to form a parapet 24 and canopy 25. The reinforcing means 11 (Fig. 6) may be spaced from the frame by blocks 12 and supported by staples 13. Door and window frames 14, 15 may be positioned before spraying such that they become set in the concrete structure. The spray barriers may comprise heat-resistant panels formed of wood wool, polyurethane foam or expanded polystyrene, and may also be used for internal partitions and sprayed on each side.
