Abstract
1525055 Controlling clutch-brake combinations ELITEX 15 March 1976 [3 April 1975] 10223/76 Heading F2L [Also in Division D1] A control for a clutch-brake combination in the drive to the needle cylinder of a circular knitting machine comprises an electromagnetically operated valve 13<SP>1</SP> which selectively supplies pressure air to the air chamber of a hydropneumatic clutch actuating cylinder 10 or to the air chamber of a hydro-pneumatic converter 12, the liquid chamber of which is connected to the liquid chamber of the cylinder 10 through a throttle valve 11 and parallel one-way valve 13. With the valve 13<SP>1</SP> in the position shown, air is supplied to the converter 12 and the liquid displaced therefrom flows through the throttle valve 11 to the cylinder 10 and acts through a piston 9 and linkage 6, 7, 8 to move an axially slidable clutch-brake plate 2 into engagement with a driving clutch disc 1. The rate of clutch engagement is determined by the throttle valve 11. When the valve 13<SP>1</SP> is changed over, pressure air is supplied to the cylinder 10 and the liquid displaced therefrom flows rapidly through the one-way valve 13 to the converter 12. The plate 2 is thus rapidly disengaged from the disc 1 and engaged with a brake disc 3. The valve 13<SP>1</SP> is acutated in response to machine failure as manual control. The linkage is connected to the plate 2 by rollers carried by the yoke 6 engaging a groove in the periphery of the plate 2.
