Abstract

1524719 Extracting tubes from tube plates PLANT ERECTION & MAINTENANCE CO Ltd 16 Feb 1977 [29 April 1976] 17416/76 Heading B4C A tube 12 is extracted from a tube plate 14 by a spear 20 comprising a front portion having a tapping thread 22 for screwing into the tube a rear portion provided with flats 24 for gripping by a screwing tool and an intermediate portion provided with an annularly discontinuous increased diameter portion 26. A ram 30 movable in cylinder 32 by hydraulic pressure has an end 36 screw fitted with a flange bearing member 38 having flanges 40 of a size to pass between the annular discontinuities 26 and upon rotation to engage the front shoulders thereof. Stop members (28, Fig. 2, not shown) on portions 26 or 40 stop the rotation when engagement is complete. The ram is surrounded by a spacer tube 44 for bracing cylinder 32 against tube plate 14. The end of the tube has castellations 46 to enable it to avoid the projecting portions of adjacent tubes 12. The spear may have a flange (56, Fig. 3, not shown) which engages the front (58, Fig. 6, not shown) of the flanges (60) of the ram.
