Abstract

1524542 Randomly dyeing fabric E J SNYDER & CO INC 1 Sept 1975 36008/75 Heading D1L Fabric is randomly dyed by dyeing the fabric in a twisted condition, the fabric being drawn from a twister, dyed and then stored twisted to allow the dye to react. As shown fabric is drawn twisted from container 3 mounted on rotating table 7 and then passed between the perforated cylinder 21 of a vacuum dye impregnator and belt 17, dye being supplied from container 34 into the interior of the cylinder at 25. The twisted fabric is oscillated transversely either manually or mechanically [Fig. 2 (not shown)] to reduce cylinder wear. The mechanical oscillator comprises a cone (61) through which the fabric passes mounted on a carriage 63 slidable on rails (65). The carriage is driven by a rotating disc (77) provided with a pin (79) which slides within a slotted arm (69) pivoted at the upper end thereon at (71), the lower end being supported by a pin (73) fixed to a stationary support (75). The fabric, prior to dyeing, may be periodically squeezed and manipulated to vary the compression or twist. The dyed fabric is then squeezed between nip rollers (51), (52) and collected in container (40).
