Abstract

1523931 Sweeteners TATE & LYLE Ltd 23 June 1976 [4 July 1975 (3)] 28216/75 28218/75 and 28234/75 Heading A2B [Also in Divisions A5 and C6] Sweetening compositions comprise (i) a protein sweetener, e.g. thaumatin or monellin, (ii) and/or one or more of L-gulose, D-fucose, xylitol, D-arabitol, lactulose, glucoheptose, D (+)-galactose or D (+)-galactosamine or a salt thereof as a taste modifier, and optionally (iii) saccharin (or a salt thereof), unless (ii) is D (+) galactose. Sucrose, glucose, fructose and cyclamates may be included, as may NaCl and/or Ca(OH) 2 to enhance the sugarlike quality. Benzoic acid, SO 2 or sodium metabisulphite may be included as a preservative. The composition may be formulated as a powder, granules or tablets using dextrins, starch, proteins, sorbitol, dextrose and sucrose as carriers, diluents and bulking agents, or as a solution or suspension in water, glycerol, ethanol or oil. Suitable proportions for the components are given. The composition may be incorporated into various foodstuffs, drinks, pharmaceutical preparations and chewing gum.
