Abstract
1522813 Roller-and-ring mills GENERAL COMMINUTION INC 18 Sept 1975 38436/75 Heading B2A A roller 10 Fig. 2 of a roller-and-ring mill may have a helical outer surface and is suspended by a flexible axle or shaft 30 Fig. 4, permitting movement centrifugally against the casing of the mill. The flexible axle or shaft is a wire rope rotatably journalled at its ends in bearings 32, Fig. 4 or fixed and with the roller itself rotatable on bearings 90, 92, 94 Fig. 11. The roller may be a helically-wound coil 82 with spaced turns and a helical insert 84 Fig. 9, between the turns. The insert has an exterior surface projecting beyond the turns and having a surface constituting the exterior surface of the roller. The outer surface of the roller may be ellipsoidal, Fig. 12 or multisided with an appropriately cooperating casing Fig. 13. The crushing roller may also be a unitary sleeve having ridges 78 and grooves 80, Fig. 8, or be formed by stacked rings 66 Fig. 6.
