Abstract

1522614 A footform carrier BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 12 Aug 1975 [13 Aug 1974] 35678/74 Heading B5A A footform carrier 40 for footforms 42 is moved from an open to a closed position (Fig. 2) in two stages, the initial stage being relatively faster than the final stage. The actuating mechanism comprises a pivoted cylinder 46 which, when its rod 56 is extended, urges the bearing face 66 of a lever 52 against the face 66 of a cam block 68 to slide therealong and rotate a head 34 relatively quickly in a clockwise direction above a pivot 38 until the face 62 of the lever 52 clears the cam block face 66 whereupon the bearing face 66 engages the cam face 76 of the cam block 68 to allow the head 34 to rotate relatively slowly to bring the footform carrier down to its closed position with the relevant footform 42 positioned within a shoe mould 44. The carrier 40 may support two footforms 42 adjustably mounted thereon and may be rotated with respect to the head 34 about an axle 348 to allow the footforms 42 to be interchanged for the loading and unloading of shoe uppers and completed shoes. The carrier 40 is prevented from normally rotating by a spring-loaded latch 354. The mould clamping unit (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) comprises a pair of mould supports (150) which may be slid forwards and backwards on bars (146) by respective pivoted fluid cylinders (164) each acting through a linkage comprising a lever (172), a rotatable shaft (160) passing through the support (150) and levers (174, 176) mounted at the ends of the shaft (160). The levers (174) are interconnected by a rigid U-shaped bar (178) and the levers (176) by a rigid straight bar (184), the bars which rise and fall as the supports (150) slide backwards and forwards taking the clamping strain. The movement of the bar (184) is guided by springs (186) and a roller (188) running in a V-shaped guide (190) A sole mould plate (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) is supported on a carrier (192) which is raised and lowered between the limits of travel by a cylinder 212 acting through a lever 194 which is pivoted to the carrier on a shaft (196) and to the machine (36) on a slidable pivot pin (200). The cylinder (212) may be pivoted anticlockwise by a second cylinder (240) acting through an arm 238, a shaft (218) and a lever (216) so that the carrier (192) may be positioned intermediate its limits of travel to allow two layered soles to be injected. The carrier may be clamped in any position by using a pivoted cylinder 274 to pivot a lever (266) upwardly so that a curved brake face thereof can engage a complementary face (198) on the lever (194). The pin (200) slides in a pair of spring mounted pivot blocks (204), the springs (208) thereof allowing the carrier to move down should the mould pressure exceed a predetermined value. The length of travel of the rod (220) of the cylinder (212) is governed by engagement of a shoulder (228) with an adjustable stop block (250). The rod (240) acts against an adjustable stop block (226). The limit of retraction of the piston rods (220, 246) within their cylinders is governed by the engagement of faces (258, 260) on arm (238) and the frame respectively. The limit of pivotal movement of the brake lever (266) is governed by the engagement of a stop face (282) with a shaft (268) of the lever (266).
