Abstract

Razors.-In a rotary razor of the barrel or cylinder type having a number of blades mounted in a mechanically rotated carrier head, the carrier is rotatable in opposite directions so that the beard may be shaved in opposite directions. The double-edged blades 36, Figs. 8 and 9, are clamped to the cylindrical carrier head 26 by gauge plates 37 having headed studs 38 passing through apertures in the blades and head and engaged by key-hole slots 39 in plungers 40 slidingly mounted in the head. Longitudinal lather-accumulating pockets 28 are arranged in the head between the blades, and communicate with the periphery of the head by ports 32 and slots 34; the blade edges overhang the slots 34 and lie flush with or slightly below the surface of the head. The head is secured to a shaft 20 by a spring latch 29 fastened in one of the pockets 28, the shaft being carried in a sleeve 12 and driven by gearing in a lateral offset support 11. Fig. 1, carried by a tubular handle 10, through which the driving-shaft 25 extends. A cylindrical guard housing 14 provided with a hinged cap 15 is fastened to the sleeve 12 and is formed at one side with a longitudinal slot, through which the blades operate. Apertures may be arranged adjacent the slot; or the slot may be bridged by diagonal ribs. The razor may be used without the guard.
