Abstract

1521121 Hollow articles, e.g. inflatable balls METTOY CO Ltd 28 May 1976 [14 March 1975] 10871/75 Heading A6D [Also in Divisions B5 and B7] A closed hollow article has an outer shell of unfilled or substantially unfilled PVC and an inner shell of filled PVC fused to the outer shell. The article may be inflatable and may be a play ball, buoy or fender. The inner shell may be thicker than the outer shell. Preferred formulations for the two shells are disclosed. Moulding a ball: Outer shell formulation is introduced into a mould which is rotated about mutually transverse axes, whilst the formulation is heated until partially fused. The mould and the partially fused shell are then ruptured along the mould parting line and inner shell formulation is introduced. The mould is re-closed and rotation and heating resumed to fully fuse the outer shell, fuse the inner shell and fuse the two shells together. After cooling, the ball is removed and inflated to a little over twice its uninflated diameter.
