Abstract
1520465 Polyesters TEIJIN Ltd 3 Oct 1975 [4 Oct 1974 25 April 1975 22 Aug 1975] 40612/75 Heading C3R Polyesters are made, where percentages of ingredients refer to moles based on (A), by (1) esterifying, to a degree of #80%: (A) a difunctional carboxylic acid of which # 60% is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid; 0-80%, of (B) an aliphatic diol; and (C) a monohydric phenol; where (B) + (C) totals # 210%; and (2) adding 0-80% (B), such that total (B) in (1) and (2) is 0-80%, and (D) a dihydric phenol, such that (D) + (B) in step (2) totals 95-130%; and (3) reacting. (1) may be performed at 200-350‹ C. and 1-15 kg./cm.<2> (abs), with distillation off of water. The polymer may be granulated and further polymerized in the solid phase at elevated temperature. In Example, (A) is terephthalic and/or isophthalic, or naphthalenedicarboxylic acid; (B) is neopentyl glycol, dimethylolcyclohexane, or ethylene glycol; (C) is phenol; and (D) is bisphenol A. Also present as catalyst are Ti tetrabutoxide or stannous acetate. Use.-Injection-moulding.
