1520464 Production of methane RALPH M PARSONS CO 5 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 36591/75 Addition to 1443735 Heading C5E Methane is produced by passing a feed stream comprising hydrogen, oxides of carbon and steam at a temperature of at least 900‹ F. into a wet methanation zone containing a catalyst which comprises 5-35 wt. per cent of iron, nickel or cobalt in the free metal form on a temperaturestabilized ceramic alumina support; the methanation zone being operated under adiabatic conditions with a feed temperature of at least 900‹ F. and an exit temperature of up to 1600‹ F. and the thermal stability of the catalyst support being induced by heating the support at a temperature above that encountered in the wet methanation prior to depositing the metal thereon.
