Abstract

1520127 Sodium perborate monohydrate PEROXID-CHEMIE GmbH 16 Sept 1975 [19 Sept 1974] 37952/75 Addition to 1449511 Heading C1A Abrasion resistant sodium perborate monohydrate is made by the method of Parent Specification comprising deydrating particles of sodium perborate tetrahydrate with a warm gas inert to perborate wherein the relative humidity is maintained in the range of 40-80% generated in situ by evaporation of the water of crystallization and the exhausting gas is at a temperature of at least 60‹ C. during removal of at least 0À8 moles water of crystallization. In a preferred embodiment, the dehydration is conducted in two stages, a first stage with a residence time of 2-5 hours, relative humidity less than 40%, and exhaust temperatures below 60‹ C. for the removal of 1À1-1À8 moles water of crystallization per mole of tetrahydrate and a second more rapid stage in which the relative humidity is 40-80% and the exhaust air temperature is at least 60‹ C. The drying may be carried out in a fluidized bed, The monohydrate granulate prepared has a specific surface area of 7-9 m<SP>2</SP>/g and abrasion values of less than 5%. The product of the example has an active oxygen content of 15À6, a surface area of 7À8m<SP>2</SP>/g and abrasion of 4%.
