Abstract

1519825 Paper-making machines JWI Ltd 29 July 1975 [6 Aug 1974] 31642/75 Heading D2A In a Fourdrinier machine a drainage foil 7 is vibrated in a cross-machine direction at the fundamental frequency of the stock-carrying run of the wire 2 or a harmonic thereof to shake the wire 2 to improve drainage and fibre distribution. As shown, alternate foils 7 are slidable on T-section supports 6 and are coupled by rods 9 to eccentrics 10, 11, 12 driven by a shaft 13. Alternatively hydraulic or pneumatic vibrating means may be used. As shown, the foils 7 are 180‹ out of phase but have equal amplitudes of vibration. Alternatively they may be vibrated in phase but with different amplitudes. The top surfaces of the foils 7 may be of rubber to increase friction between the foils and the wire.
