Abstract

1519522 Central heating systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 10 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974 20 Feb 1975] 41642/75 Heading F4U A heating system comprises a heat pump 10 having an evaporator 11 for withdrawing heat from the environment, e.g. from ambient air or from spring or river water supplied by a pump 14, and a condenser 12 for transferring heat to liquid in a pipeline 17 connected to a three-way valve 19 whereby the heated liquid may be passed to a calorifier 23 and/or to a radiator system 31 and then returned to the condenser. A thermostat 44 in the calorifier is connected to a switch 42 controlling the heat pump compressor motor and the multiway valve 19. As shown, the compressor motor is also controlled by a control unit 36 connected to sensors 37, 38 for detecting the ambient temperature and the temperature in the radiator system, respectively. The control unit 36 also controls the operation of an auxiliary heater 29. The control arrangement is such that the multiway valve 19 provides priority switching to the calorifier in that when the thermostat 44 demands heat, the control unit 36 is overridden and the valve 19 is adjusted so that only water in the calorifier is heated. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the multiway valve 19 is located at the downstream side of the calorifier and the radiator system 31, adjacent to the inlet of the pump 33.
