Abstract

1519400 Rubber; styrene (&c.) graft polymers IDEMITSU PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 8 July 1976 [9 July 1975] 28424/76 Heading C3P A high impact styrene or substituted styrene graft polymer is prepared by (1) reacting the monomer with a rubbery polymer whilst flowing through a tubular reactor having at least one impedance to flow, until a conversion of 10-60% is attained, and (2) further polymerizing under conditions of sufficiently low shear that no dispersion or agglomeration of the rubbery polymer phase ensues; in step (1) the flow through the reactor is substantially laminar except at the impedance to flow. Embodied in in flow impedances are a valve, a construction, a static mixer a packing material.
