Abstract

1476480 Ethylene copolymers DU PONT OF CANADA Ltd 9 July 1974 [18 July 1973 (2)] 54548/76 Divided out of 1476479 Heading C3P Ethylene copolymers or copolmer blends containing at least one C 4 -C 10 olefin have the following properties: a density of 0À937- 0À944, a melt index of 0À2-0À4, a melt viscosity at 190‹ C. not more than 2À0 x 10<SP>4</SP> poise at an apparent shear rate of 100 sec.<SP>-1</SP> and not less than 3 x 10<SP>5</SP> poise at an apparent shear rate of 0À1 sec.<SP>-1</SP> and a stress exponent of 1À6-2À0. In one example a suitable copolymer is prepared by polymerizing ethylene and butene-1 in cyclohexane using VOCl 3 , TiCl 4 and aluminium triisoprenyl in the presence of hydrogen. In another, different ethylene/ butene copolymers are blended. The products are compounded with carbon and used to make pipes.
