Abstract

1518979 Electrolytically colouring anodized Al SUMITOMO ALUMINIUM SMELTING CO Ltd 14 Nov 1975 [19 Nov 1974 (2)] 47003/75 Heading C7B Anodized Al or Al alloy wire or strip is continuously passed as cathode through an electrolytic colouring bath containing selenious acid or a salt of Ni, Co, Sn, Fe or Cu, using direct current (which may be non-uniform), the bath being supplied to at least one surface of the Al from an opening 9 in a hollow body 7 which contains an anode 8. One or more hollow bodies may be used above and/or below the Al. The bodies may be immersed in the bath as shown, or may direct the bath on to the Al above a collecting vessel Fig. 2 (not shown), in which case two pairs of rollers (11,11'), between which the Al passes, act as a temporary reservoir for the bath. The opening may be a slit transverse to the Al, and may include barriers which lead to a striped coloration on the Al.
