Abstract

1518276 Tyre changing apparatus DUNLOP Ltd 5 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 35739/74 Heading B7C A tyre changing apparatus comprises a post 2 extending normal to a base plate 3; and a wheel securing member 4 having a pin 10 engageable with a bolt hole in the wheel disc and a tubular portion 5 coacting with the post, which is of non-circular section, to prevent rotation of member 4 relative to the post; and releasable stop means for preventing or resisting, during a tyre changing operation, movement of the securing member away from the base plate. In the apparatus of Figs. 1 and 2 the stop means comprises a cam member 13 pivoted on the member 4 at a point 18 spaced from the centre of curvature 19 of surface 20, and a spring 11 biasing the cam surface 20 into frictional engagement with the post. In a modification the spring 17 is not used and the centre of curvature 19 is above the pivot point 18 (Fig. 4, not shown). Alternative stop means include a spring biased ratchet on the member 4 engaging teeth on the post and a peg passing through a pair of diametrically opposed holes in the member 4 and a selected one of a plurality of axially spaced holes in the post.
