Abstract

1518268 Water turbines A DIXON 14 April 1977 14480/77 Heading F1T An electric generator is driven by a buoyant water wheel. In one arrangement the latter has a hollow gas filled plastics hub 1 with radial paddles 2 and is mounted on hinged arm 8 to drive the generator via toothed belt 4. In another arrangement the buoyancy is provided by an inflatable rubber tube passing through holes in the paddles. Several wheels may be mounted on a common support structure such as a breakwater or river bridge.
