Abstract

1515743 Utilizing wave energy M G TORNABENE 16 May 1975 21048/75 Heading F1S A wave energy utilization device comprises a wave responsive float 16 and shaft mechanism 26a, 26b, in which the float is freely rotatable around the shaft on which it is mounted, the shaft being substantially upright and passing through the floats central axis such that the forces of water waves and currents are at least partially absorbed by free rotation of the float thereby substantially obviating a torque acting on the shaft which might otherwise inhibit free reciprocating motion of the shaft upwardly and downwardly within its bearing supports 27, 28. As shown the shaft portion 26a comprises a rack which drives a generator 39. In a modification (not shown), the float is connected to a piston of a reciprocating pump which supplies liquid to a turbine. Various shapes of floats may be employed. A weight may be associated with the float.
