Abstract
1516840 Automatic control MULLARD Ltd 30 July 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 43137/74 Heading G3N An automatic machine tool is provided with a visual input device whereby an image of mark on a flat surface mounted in the operative plane of the machine tool is compared with a graticule and displacement effected to align the mark in the centre of the graticule for subsequent machining of the surface. As shown, a printed circuit board 1 is positioned relative to a drill 4 by a two-dimensional positioning-table 2 controlled by a computer 9 responsive to the signals from a television camera 6 scanning the board I through a semi-reflecting mirror 5 as superimposed on the image of a graticule 8. The computer analyses the superimposed images by pattern recognition techniques, see Specification 1401008 division G1, to provide pulses to stepping motors, not shown, driving the table. The computer also controls the operation of the drill.
