Abstract

To form mineral-wool fibres, mineral melted in a fibration unit (5) is thrown off from the outside of a rotatable cylinder (6) having a horizontal axis. The fibres are transported by means of a gas stream to a gas-permeable collecting band (12), where the fibres settle in the form of a mat, at the same time being separated from the gaseous medium. The gas stream is accelerated over some of the distance between the fibration unit (5) and the collecting band (12), starting at the fibration unit (5), in order to prevent the formation of flocks. For this purpose, the apparatus has a horizontal spinning chamber (1) of rectangular cross-section and two vertical walls (17, 18). The fibration unit (5), which comprises the cylinder (6), is arranged at the entry end (2) of the spinning chamber, whilst the collecting band (12) is arranged at the exit end (8) of the spinning chamber. The spinning chamber (1) is connected to a blower (9) for generating a pressure difference between the entry end and the exit end. The cross-section of the spinning chamber (1) decreases in the direction from the entry end (2) towards the exit end (8) along some of the distance between these two ends. <IMAGE>
