Abstract
The process consists in delivering the heat-softened material, using crucibles (142, 144, 146) provided with orifices, into a fibre-forming zone which is entered by carrier gas jets emitted by nozzles (148, 150, 152), into a main gas stream created by generators (154, 156, 158). The gases from the generators (154, 156, 158) and from the nozzles (148, 150, 152) flow with the fibres in hollow guides (168, 170, 172) which feed a perforated conveyor (180). Nozzles (50) spray water onto these fibres; other nozzles (13) spray a resinous binder. To avoid atmospheric pollution and to affect the orientation of the fibres in the mat, the gases passing through the conveyor are returned towards the fibre-forming zone. These gases are subjected to washing by water-spraying nozzles (45). Cyclone separators (18) collect the water, the resinous components and the fibre debris carried by the gases before they are introduced into the fibre-forming zone. This process can be applied to the manufacture of glass fibre mats. <IMAGE>
