Abstract

1515785 Coating confectionery RENI CIRILLO S & L 23 Feb 1976 [28 Feb 1975 5 Feb 1976] 6963/76 Heading A2A [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for coating confectionery, pharmaceuticals or small articles comprises a support structure 1 on which is supported an annular or helical receptacle 18 having a channel section open upwardly, an aperture 21 in the side or bottom wall of said channel for discharge of the finished product, closure means 23 for selectively closing the aperture, anda vibration generator for causing the said annular receptacle to vibrate with respect to the support. A motor 5 having eccentric weights 8, 9 on its shaft may be the vibration generator. The apparatus may apply sugar/starch solution via inlet 26 to almonds carried in trough 18; the vibration causes them to proceed around the trough 18, which is foraminous so that hot air for drying can be blown through tube 14 into space 19; excess coating material falls through holes 28, 29. Further air is blown into space 12 via tube 16 and passage 13; exhaust gas from 27a is taken to solid/moisture separators (not shown). Trough 18 may contain a ramp of rods (Fig. 2, not shown) between which a single article may pass but which agglomerates have to climb to a rejection station. Various ways of mounting the trough are illustrated (Figs. 4- 11, not shown); in some of these the trough is a descending part-helix, and in another embodiment a further trough for carrying away coated articles is provided beyond the closable aperture.
