Abstract
1515632 Flow sample cells PERKIN ELMER CORP 3 Feb 1976 [6 Feb 1975 (2)] 04208/76 Heading G2J [Also in Division F2] An optical flow cell 10 for spectrophotometry comprises a first lens 35 to concentrate light into a throughbore 12 in a block 15, a second lens 38 to concentrate light leaving the bore 12 on to a photodetector 13; each end of the bore 12 being sealed by a gasket 18 of rectangular cross-section when relaxed and a window 16, 17, either the block end or the window bearing a salient of larger diameter than the internal diameter of the washer surrounding the bore such that the gasket is most compressed at the salient and is still compressed to a lesser extent radially outwardly of the salient, and the cell being optically associated with a light source and a detector. As shown, Fig. 2, the ends of the bore 12 are belled at an angle to the bore axis, and sample liquid is introduced via conduit 27 and removed via conduit 28. Conduit 27 is wrapped at least once round the cell to thermally stabilize the sample before measurement. The windows 16, 17 are urged against the gaskets by belville washers 20 via plungers 19, and the belville washers 20 are compressed between rings 21.
