Abstract
1512470 Liquid heaters COMPAGNIE INTERNATIONALE DE MINERALLURGIE 17 May 1976 20278/76 Heading F4A A liquid heater comprises a tank provided with an electric resistance heating element and includes a glass or ceramic member which separates the element from the interior of the tank. In the embodiment shown a tank 1 is provided with glass member 2 forming a bottom and which carries a heating element 6. A plate 5 urges a heat insulating filling 4 against the member 2. Heating of the element 6 causes secondary currents to be generated in the glass and these can be used to turn off the element if the temperature becomes too high. Alternatively an electrically insulating layer can be arranged between the element and the glass to prevent the production of such currents. In a further embodiment, for use with an element of a higher operating temperature, (Fig. 2, not shown) the element is arranged on an electric insulator and is spaced from the member 2 to enable heat to be transmitted by both conduction and radiation.
