Abstract

1512261 Fluidised bed apparatus MANNESMANNROHREN - WERKE AG and BERGSWERKSVERBAND GmbH 28 April 1975 [15 May 1974] 17569/75 Heading B1F [Also in Division C5] Apparatus for the gasification of coal with steam comprises a tubular retort divided into lower and upper chambers 7, 8 by a perforated trough 6 supported therein on longitudinal section members 4, 5, and heating tubes 11, 14, 15 supported in the upper chamber 8; in use, coal is fed into the trough 6 and is fluidised by steam introducing into the lower chamber through aperture 9, the fluidised bed being heated by the tubes 11, 14, 15. As shown, in Fig. 2 the heating tubes are supported in parallel planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the retort, and are connected to headers 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 and 19. If it is desired to operate the apparatus continuously, the retort is tilted with its longitudinal axis inclined to the horizontal and coal is fed into one end of the retort, passes through by gravity and the residue is discharged at the other end. The heating medium in the tubes may be waste coolant from a nuclear reactor.
