1511710 Knitting machines SILVER SEIKO CO Ltd 15 Dec 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 51303/75 Heading D1C In a flat-bed, particularly a hand-operated, knitting machine yarn is fed from a take-up spring 43 to the needles 33 through an eye 4a in a yarn carrier 4 on the carriage 1a, 2a and means are provided for changing the yarn automatically e.g. to alternate between yarns M 1 and M 2 , each means comprising a yarnchanging unit 7 mounted on a removable support member 8 at one end of the needle beds and having output members 10, 11 for releasably holding the respective yarns and displaceable between yarn holding (11, Fig. 5) and yarn releasing (10, Fig. 5) positions in response to actuation of an input member 18 of the unit 7 by an element 6 on the carriage, the yarn carrier 4 being formed with a guideway 4f to allow entry and exit of the yarns. The element 6 pivots the input member 18 which cams an intermediate member 25 to pivot and to advance by one pitch a ratchet wheel rotationally fast with a cam 14. Such cam has high and low portions 14b, 14a which alternately engage the respective output members to displace them between their two positions. A guide bar 15 engages by its portion 15a the yarn of the output member moving to releasing position to free same while portion 156 guides the yarn previously being knitted into position for being caught by its output member.
