1511466 Offshore structures LINDE AG 11 March 1976 [11 March 1975] 09685/76 Heading E1H A buoyant body 1 has a compartment lined with a thermally-insulating material 2 and containing a liquefied gas e.g. nitrogen, 4 so that by injecting water through valves 5, 6 the body can be sunk and the gas heated to pressurize the compartment and thereby counterbalance the external pressure. The body may constitute the foot of a leg 3 of a platform, which may be furnished with pipes 8 through which the compartment can be subsequently charged with solid ballasting-material e.g. gravel, sand, or cement. The body may be made of concrete.
