Abstract

1510913 Knitting machines SILVER SEIKO CO Ltd 7 April 1976 [8 April 1975] 14064/76 Heading D1C A flat-bed knitting machine has a patterning mechanism which makes a preliminary selection of a small group of needles prior to further selection by an element on the carriage so that a single motif can be produced. In operation, rear partitions 204 of the carriage cam mechanism pass closely in front of the butts 102 of needles 103 in rest position and with cam 205 define a butt passage g while the latter with cam 206 defines passage c. Thus butts of needles in first, second and most advanced position travel in passages g, f and c. A pivoted cam 208 is normally biassed against partition 204 but is manually pivotable to and held in a second position in which the needle butts in the second advanced position will be guided into the butt passage g instead of f. Needles whose butts are guided into passage f are further separated by two elements 209 to take passage e or d. For each element 209, there is provided a selection drum controlled by a needle selection control mechanism 106 comprising a perforated control card 600. Needle selection control members 400, 400' moulded e.g. of polyacetal are mirror images of one another and each carry cams 401, 402 and legs 403 whose spacing corresponds to tricks 104 so that these can be mounted at the rear ends of the tricks. Guide members 210 symmetrically mounted on the carriage each comprise integrally moulded thermoplastic cams 212 and 213 forming passage a which continues between cam 212 and a first displaceable cam 215 which with wall 214 forms passage b. A slot 221 in one end of bell crank 219 is connected by pin 220 and linkage 217 to the free end of cam 215, the other end of bell crank 219 being connected to a manually operated rod 223. A spring 226 ensures that the bell crank is shifted definitely to one or other of its positions. A second displaceable guide cam 227 forms a third passage c and is displaceable manually by member 230 either to allow butts 102 to pass through passage b or to move into passage c.
