Abstract
Nitrogen-containing crosslinked condensation products are prepared by reacting polyamidoamines, which optionally contain up to 8 grafted on ethyleneimine units per basic nitrogen group in the polyamidoamine and are obtainable by condensing dicarboxylic acids having 4 to 10 carbon atoms with polyalkylene polyamines, with a crosslinking agent which has been reacted by reaction of the terminal OH groups of polyalkylene oxides with at least equivalent amounts of epichlorohydrin, at from 20 to 100 DEG C. The reaction is carried out until high-molecular-weight resins which are only just water-soluble are formed. From 0.3 to 2 parts by weight of the crosslinking agent are employed per part by weight of a polyamidoamine. Resins are obtained which have a viscosity of greater than 300 mPa in 20% strength aqueous solution at a temperature of 20 DEG C. The crosslinked, nitrogen-containing condensation products are used as auxiliaries in the production of papers of all types. They are employed in an amount of from about 0.01 to about 0.3% by weight, based on the weight of the cellulose fibres, in the fibre pulp. The condensation products are suitable as dewatering, flocculation or retention agents.
