Abstract
1509925 Rotary regenerative heat exchanger NOEL PENNY TURBINES Ltd 17 July 1975 [8 Aug 1974] 34916/74 Heading F4K A turbine rotor 1 discharges hot exhaust gases through an annular duct 2 to part of the adjacent end faces of a pair of disc-shaped matrices 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. The matrices are arranged one at each side of the turbine axis and are rotated by annular driving gears 5, 5<SP>1</SP> engaged by pinions (not shown). Seals 4, 4<SP>1</SP> define a sector-shaped area in the end face of each matrix 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, through which the exhaust gases pass. Compressed air to be heated passes in counterflow through another part of each matrix. Discharge of the hot gases from the annular duct 2 is through apertures 7, 7<SP>1</SP> in distribution plates 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. The plates 6, 6<SP>1</SP> may be curved or flat. The apertures may be all the same size or of different. sizes in different parts of the distribution plates.
