Abstract

1509822 Relay matrix INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 20 Jan 1976 [30 Jan 1975] 02143/76 Heading H4K In a matrix ofbi-stable relays, each relay has two control windings and is operated by coincident bipolar current pulses in the two windings. The pulses are supplied from pulse generators 5 and 6, (Fig. 1) via selectively operable switches IC and IR respective to each row and column of the matrix. Fig. 3 shows the pulses generated by generators 5 (Ix) and 6 (Iy) and their sum (IF). The pulses are such that when only Ix or only Iy is applied to a relay the relay releases, first stable state, and when both are applied the resultant pulse IF operates the relay, second stable state; alternatively the pulses may enable all the pulsed relays to release before the relay which receives pulses from both generators operates (Fig. 5, not shown) or the pulses may have decreasing amplitudes to produce more thorough demagnetization (Fig. 6, not shown) or the positive going pulses may be made wider than the negative going pulses to allow for differences in propagation times (Fig. 7, not shown). If non resonant relay contacts are used, the coils may be wound on a magnet (Fig. 8, not shown).
