Abstract

PURPOSE:To generate a large discharge energy by using multiple ignition coils generating discharge energies on the secondary sides at the ignition timing and adding the secondary outputs of these ignition coils to the preset same polarity with diodes then applying it to a discharge gap. CONSTITUTION:Two ignition coils 21, 22 are provided, and primary currents of the ignition coils 21, 22 are fed or cut off by drive signals generated in response to the ignition timing by switching elements such as bipolar switching transistors 31, 32. Discharge energies are generated on the secondary windings of the ignition coils 21, 22 respectively, these discharge energies are added to the same polarity by diodes 81, 82 then applied to a discharge gap (ignition plug) 7. Since the secondary outputs of the ignition coils 21, 22 are added, a large discharge energy can be generated as compared with one ignition coil used in the past.
