Electrodes.-A metal structure forming a core for receiving the active material of a nickel-iron storage cell, is built up of nickel or nickel-plated iron or steel or other wires or r o d s twisted and arranged in various forms. Fig. 1 shows a form consisting of twisted wires 1 surrounded by a wire coil 2. The wires 1 may be replaced by a single wire wound into a helix and surrounded by a wire coil. Fig. 3 shows a form consisting of twisted wires 1 fitted with projecting wires 5. Fig. 4 shows another arrangement produced by winding coils 7 on a number of wires 6 as shown in Fig. 5, then uniting the wires 6 and twisting the bundle so formed. Fig. 10 illustrates a further modification produced by surrounding a number of wires 6 as shown in Fig. 5 with wire cords composed of twisted wires instead of a plain wire 7, and uniting the wires into a bundle. The completed core is embedded in iron or nickel oxide and is enclosed in a perforated tube as shown in Fig. 7 consisting of insulating material or of nickel or nickel-plated iron or steel which may be coated with an insulating varnish. A number of such tubes may be connected together to form an electrode.
