Abstract
1509607 Matrix displays FUJITSU Ltd 9 July 1975 [9 July 1974] 28956/75 Heading G5C The display operation of a gas discharge panel with crossed conductors insulated from the gas and X electrodes connected sequentially to buses A, B, C, D; in which charges are initially shifted across the panel to selected sites; comprises applying sustain signals VC, VD to two but not all of the buses whereby discharges are continuously moved from the selected sites to adjacent sites and back again. The method whilst doubling the size of each display element keeps the operating margin during shift and display operations equal since there is always a space of 3 sites between energized sites. In a known method in which two buses are continually driven, the space is reduced to two sites. The shift signals VA. 1 .VD each comprise the same two shift pulses and an erase pulse and are also used during the display period DP. The methods can be used when the X electrodes are connected to only 3 buses and when the Y electrodes are arranged in two groups and each display element comprises 4 sites.
